Hello there!  :o)

The service I run is actually aimed at professional songwriters and/or record companies who need what's called an "adaptation" of a song for recording in English. This is not a translation, but a re-writing of the song in English, with the rhyming scheme, the scanning of syllables, etc., all to match the original, and to match the original subject if that's required. It's no mean feat!

Of course, I can translate lyrics so that you can understand them - no problem at all - but I'm not offering a free service, because adapting a song correctly, using the necessary talents of a songwriter too, takes hours and hours; and it's part of my income...

You could try the various free translation sites on the Internet - they will come up with a version that will have you on your knees with laughter, but you will get the general sense and, as a bonus, learn some of the classic translating errors that people (and thus computers) make. It's fun too!! Try this - it will translate either whole Web pages for you, or you can copy/paste the lyrics into the box provided & choose the language(s) of the translation that you want doing. It only takes a few seconds to complete.  :o)

If on the other hand you need exact translations, or indeed adaptations, then I'm willing to help. As much as I would like to do this work for free, especially for students (of which I was one for 5 years!), that's not really possible because I consider this to be part of my profession as a songwriter. I hope you understand.

Warm regards,

Yours,

John.

--------------------------------------------------

The purpose of song adaptation is to create a singable English version of a song in another language. An adaptation must be true to the intent and feeling of the original and retain as much of the poetic qualities as possible. However the constraints of melody, and in particular of rhyme, may require parts of the song to be re-invented in English. The goal is to re-use the original music and basic ideas to create a song in English that is as successful as the original.
